Villard Reculas skiing resort |
|
Villard Reculas is located in the heart of the Grandes Rousses mountain range. Seven towns of the Oisans (Alpe d'Huez, Auris, La Garde, Le Freney d'Oisans, Oz en Oisans, Vaujany and Villard Reculas) make up the ski area of Grandes Rousses Alpe d'Huez.
A brief history of the village:
Villard Reculas has 65 permanent residents, called Villarets. The village is located in the western foothills of the Grandes Rousses facing south west and 700 meters above the plain of Bourg d'Oisans. This mountain town had once almost disappeared because of its isolation, which accelerated the rural exodus in the 70s. Until 1982, the only access to the village was the small, dangerous road (with risks of avalanches and landslides) that connects to the village of Huez four kilometers away. Before the arrival of winter sports, the core activities of Villard Reculas were the traditional mountain farming, raising and peddling. The maintenance of a population was thus ensured by a union with the ski resort of Alpe d'Huez in 1946. This connection has seen various developments since: lifts, "ratrac" paths, chairlifts, snowmaking ... But what has really saved the isolation is the new road from Allemont .
